Personal Description

Great-grandfather, blogger, retired marine engineer and—a long time ago— naval officer.

I pose as an EE expert by picking low-hanging fruit. When I get stuck, I rely on real experts like nobus and garycase to dig me out of the mire.

Windows user since 1991, Amiga and MSDOS before that. I switched permanently to the Mac in December 2011. I've toyed with to Linux, but Photoshop and Evernote keep me tethered to MS or Apple. Interested in science & technology, the environment, and economics. Dipping a tentative toe in the waters of philosophy and digital photography.

I'd like to spend more time answering questions on EE - it's a great way to learn - but I get addicted and the house painting doesn't get done.

I relax by living in a tent, mainly in New Zealand's Conservation Department camping grounds.
