You need to play around with the system memory in the properties in Autoeexec.bat and config.sys on old OSs or play around with them in the System Varaiables found in Advanced Settings when you right click on My Computer. It will foold the DOS shell making it think it has bigger memory or something.
It's been a long time I have not fiddled with these things but I put:
FILES=200
BUFFERS=30,0
in the Advanced Tab in the System Variables on XP.
