vfp9: FoxUser

When starting an application, after having installed a distributed application, a FoxUser resource file appears on the user's desktop. How can I prevent this??

I've tried "SET RESOURCE OFF" and have re-directed to a different resource file with "SET RESOURCE TO <file>", but regardless, the FoxUser resource is created on the user's desktop, which is annoying.

You need to put the application along with a config.fpw

in the config.fpw put
RESOURCE=OFF && remove resource
SCREEN=OFF && removes main foxpro window if desirable

Or you can call the application with a switch

c:\something\desktop\myapp -cc:\windows\temp\foxuser.dbf

You probably have the application on the desktop or the working directory of the application on the desktop as specified in the icon properties.

I suggest putting the application in Program Files and a shortcut to the application on the desktop.

Using a 'Config' or "SET RESOURCE" were of no avail -- the problem persisted.  Carl's link to MS supplied the clue. MS defined the reason (the location of the shortcut icon, not the install directory, is assumed by FoxPro to be the startup dir), but the MS solution (Config file) did not work.

After closer examination of Install Shield properties, we discovered how to define a startup dir for a shortcut icon on the desktop.  This solved the problem.

InstallShield gives us lots of ways to miss something when we build our setups.
