adding empty values in foxpro 2.6 database with odbc driver

I need to add field in foxpro 2.6 database using ODBC driver which is character field and being
2.6 does not support null.  However I want to add  value where first three characters are empty asc(0) as per foxpro 2.6 and remaining characters may have other values using Visual C++.
If I use '\0' or 0 the driver does not update the whole field since ODBC driver does not support nulls. If I defined field to support NULL values, foxpro 2.6 can not recognise the structure. What is way out.

FoxPro 2.6 never handled ASC(0) as field data because that value internally to the underlting database engine means something else.  It would either consider the dbf corrupted or run with unusual results if that value got used as data.

The ODBC driver does support null values.  It's just that FoxPro 2.6 doesn't.

And I shouldn't lead you astray on the Null values in newer versions that the ODBC driver can handle.  Those are a single null as the contents of the whole field, not multiple null values within a single field in a row.

FoxPro 2.6 supports the ISBLANK() and EMPTY() functions.

thanks but this is is interface program which updates foxpro 2.6 table used as interfacing table with the application which is already developed and can not be changed just for this interface.

You should steer clear of a data format that came out 15 years ago.

That format was left in the dust long ago.
