trying to get file information using ADIR(A_ARRAY,"*.BMP"), but i get an error every time.

trying to get file information using ADIR(A_ARRAY,"*.BMP"), but i get an error every time. if i use any other extention it works, if i use "0*.bmp" it works, but when I just use "*.bmp" it doesn't. I need all the files.

What is the error you are getting? Maybe too many files in the folder? What OS are you using? Some do not allow files more than a certain number.

I would suggest you do that in a loop for you have way too many files. What you can do also is distribute your files in subfolders and scan them one by one.

You can have 65000 elements in an array. You need 5 elements per file for the adir command.

Keeping so many files in a folder slows down access in that folder by a large amount.  You should keep the files in subfolder as CaptainCyril suggests so that there are no more than 1000 files to a folder.

You are right. The capability is increased. It is 65000 in VFP7.

I think the error is caused by the function that VFP communicates with to get the array that size.

I would try the loop to get the contents in increments or divide them into subfolders. I suggest the subfolders because that improves the quality.
