replace all bar with '14' for 'SUPER' $ UPPER(spacer bar text), similarly to previous poster, your field name doesn't appear to be valid, replace it with the actual field name...
The $ is the CONTAINS operator.

extracting part of a string vfp
Hi:
IN the wild world of glass manufacturing we have a lot of spacer bar codes. A spacer bar is the metal frame that separates the two panes of a double glazed unit. THere are a lot of types of spacer bar but I need to run a scan that changes the setting in another field thus:
SCAN
if [spacer bar text] CONTAINS "Super" THEN REPLACE [bar] with "14"
endif
ENDSCAN
But vfp does not seem to like "CONTAINS". I cannot use STARTS WITH or ENDSWITH and there are too many types (ie I am too lazy) to write a query based on the spacer codes.
Is there a quick and cheerful way or should I get writing a query based on the codes?
