The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Internet Explorer randomly changing Proxy Settings on Domain

This one is a doozy.
Short and Simple:  Internet Explorer for some unknown reason is changing proxy settings for users in our organization to an old Proxy server IP that no longer exists.

Background:  We had an old proxy server on a novell network back in the day, and most of these PC's that randomly change to 50.210 were connected at one time to that network.  We now in the past few days have had some crop up that were never on novell or ever pointed to the old proxy server.

Current:  Group Policy is set to point all PCs to the current proxy server.  We mostly notice when we login to a PC as an administrator account which changes the proxy server to the old one, and then we have to change it back so for a period of time we believed it to be a profile issue, from what we can tell it is not.  We have tried replacing every entry of the old proxy in the registry, only to have the same PC the next day experience the same problem.  There is nothing in common between which PCs in the city are doing this, other than group policy and domain connectivity.

We are not currently running a wpad server through DNS or DHCB for the automatically check settings, so it's not pulling from that.  Where are other places we can start looking?  We know what we're looking for, we just don't know really where else to look for this issue and learn a little bit more how internet explorer proxy settings work.

If anyone has any advice or ran into similar issues in the past, I'm all ears!
