The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How can I enable Java options in Internet Explorer's Advanced tab?

Asked by BullmanTech in Internet Explorer Web Browser, JavaScript, Windows Vista

Tags: Java Microsoft Internet Explorer

Using Java Version 6 Update 16 (the newest one) and IE8 in Vista, Java doesnt appear in the Advanced tab of Internet Options.  In the Java Control Panel, accessible from the Windows Control Panel, the Default Java for browsers option shows IE as checked, but disabled for user editing (it's 'greyed out'). See the attached pictures.

The symptoms that led me to this issue were that certain portions of Java were not working properly while using this service that I have used for over a year now. Certain scripts won't run, and it's driving me crazy. I cannot use Firefox as a workaround because there is a service I use that can only be accessed from IE (not even the IE Firefox add-in works).

As troubleshooting steps, I have done everything. I have uninstalled Java and reinstalled it. I have used an older version of Java. I did a hard reset of my Internet Options from the Advanced tab. I've restarted my computer early and often during the troubleshooting. I looked for blogs about this and found these 3 where people have the same problem but never a solution in sight (one solution was reinstalling Windows). Take a look if you like:

On Experts-Exchange, we can do better than 'Reinstall Windows', can't we? The registry, some meddling in the guts of Internet Options, some ridiculous script to fix this... Help!
