The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

"Setup cannot connect to the Microsoft CRM Server. This might indicate that the server is down"

I have a feeling I put the wrong srever url.  Is there anyway to get into it and change server URL without having to completly reinstall CRM client.

if you go into the properties of the crm mailbox in outlook (on the left hand side of the screen, right click -> properties). on the homepage tab, enter the correct address

11.06.2007 at 10:16AM PST, ID: 20226126
Thanks rfgkev.  I just checked my properties on my laptop (which works for CRM because I put in the correct URL)  but it says this:
http://localhost:2525/_root/stage.aspx?url=SiteMapNavPage.aspx&id=root

this is not the URL for my CRM server.. are you positive this is where I would change it...

11.06.2007 at 02:08PM PST, ID: 20228272
does your laptop use the laptop client with offline capabilities? i'm guessing so as it's using localhost.

that should be where it is changed for the desktop client

11.06.2007 at 02:35PM PST, ID: 20228517
The laptop client I am using IS used with offline capabilities.  This is the laptop client, your saying it is the same place?

11.06.2007 at 11:50PM PST, ID: 20230354
sorry, is the machine you are trying to get working setup to work offline or just online?

11.20.2007 at 08:28AM PST, ID: 20320888
localhost:2525 is the "Cassini port" used only when in offline mode on a CRM Thick Client (offline client).
Please "go online" on your client, and try again, the address should change
-Paul

12.05.2007 at 12:38PM PST, ID: 20414756
Ok, this may seem like an odd reply BUT...  I am looking at my sales clients in outlook and I am online and I still get the same localhost:2525????

12.05.2007 at 01:01PM PST, ID: 20414995
You're offline still even though it says you're not.
Open regedit and navigate to:
 \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRM
Modify the key named "RCOFFLINE" and change its value from 1 to 0
-Paul

12.05.2007 at 01:56PM PST, ID: 20415501
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRM

MSCRM there isn't a registry entry for MSCRM????

12.05.2007 at 01:58PM PST, ID: 20415527
but there is one under current user   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSCRMClient

12.05.2007 at 01:59PM PST, ID: 20415538
And it is already set to 0.  Well at least I am learning something....  What should I try next?

12.05.2007 at 02:01PM PST, ID: 20415550
Also the correct server URL is in the registry.

12.05.2007 at 02:13PM PST, ID: 20415640
Yeah, I am sorry about that, MSCRM was the old 1.2 version key... they changed that in 3.0 my apologies
If it is set to 0 and it says "Online" but every website you go to is via http://localhost:2525, Im not quite sure what is going on. Sometimes the CRM Laptop Client (formerly known as the offline client) will choose whether or not to use the cassini port (2525) for specific operations; for example, the main page that lets you choose where to go like the example that rfgkev told you about, is ALWAYS via localhost:2525 on the laptop client. That does not indicate being offline.
Lets take a step back here for a minute and get to the root cause of your issues.
Does the error you receive happen while at the office (same lan as the server)?
Do you get this error only on this particular computer?
Are you the CRM Administrator?
If you only get this error sometimes, when and where do you get the error?

Lets start from there as I feel we are going in circles.
Thanks
-Paul

Thanks for all the thought preitmeyer.  So I am at the office but not on the same domain as my CRM server but that doesn't matter.  (BTW - I can connect to my server I just asked the question that way to find out how to change to another CRM server if I wanted to).
So everything is working I just want to know how to change to another CRM server without having to reinstall the client.

12.06.2007 at 10:09AM PST, ID: 20421713
Darovitz,
Well, the location to change the server after the installation is completed is in the registry as stated above:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRMClient

Again, for the laptop client/desktop client to work properly; you are required to be on the same domain as the server so that the auto-login works. I guess that's it then. Let me know if there is anything else you need
-Paul
