For one of our customers, we currently deploy custom software solutions to their live production environment. Clearly, this is not good for a number of reasons.
We'd like to set up a testing/staging environment. However, the relevant servers that must be duplicated in this new environment number about 4 or 5. i.e. we need individual servers for active directory , SQL dbase , Great Plains , Microsoft Dynamics CRM , and middleware.
We would like to create a new virtual network and then use some tool/software to create a snapshot of each server that is needed, as a virtual machine that can be deployed on a single physical server using Microsoft virtualization software
The other alternative (which we do not like) is to create all of the new virtual servers and go through the painful process of installing and configuring all the software on each one. So we just want to take a "snapshot" of the physical servers as VMs and then deploy them as new virtual servers on the new virtual network, etc.
We are aware that VMWare has some tools for this but the decision was made not to use VMWare and to only stay with Microsoft Virtualization.
Can anyone give me some advice/guidelines/software
recommendations on how to do this? Or even if it is possible to do using Microsoft virtualization?
Thanks so much!
