I will give that a try. Thank you.

We have a MS CRM 3.0 implementation. We also have a QA environment that we built using a copy of the production database. That was all fine until we tried to refresh the QA environment with a new copy of the production database.
To refresh we restore the database, then use the redeploy wizard then reinstall CRM with the existing database. What we are running into is an error during install "Microsoft.Crm.Setup.Serve
I spoke to Dynamics Support on Friday who indicated that the HRESULT code is a generic unknown error and usually indicates a database issue. Has anybody seen this and gotten past it? My production environment is operational, but if I can't reinstall it that is not good news.
I don't know if this helps, but we have a development team that says they don't go into the database at all and only adds via the customization process, but could this occur if the database is modified? I'm not a DBA or developer so I don't know about that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've seen many posts with this error via Google search, but not many solutions. Thanks in advance.

Before I gave the above suggestion a try, I made another backup of my production database and attempted to redeploy again with that. Sure enough, this redeployment worked with no errors. I'm going to do this a few more times with additional backups to make sure I don't see the error again. Thank you for responding though.

It's been a while since I worked with version 3.0. But I have a recollection of something like this. I recall deleting a row from one of the tables in the database that held a licence code and then the redeployment worked.
I'm sorry I can't remember which table but if you hunt around in the database you should be able to find it. Do make sure you have a backup - in case it all goes wrong.
