Why don't my wmv files contained in a Powerpoint 2003 file show in both places when connected to a projector?

I have a MS Powerpoint 2003 file that contains several wmv files. The powerpoint file displays fine on the windows laptop, but when I connect it to a projector, I cannot get them to display in both places unless I change my display setting on the laptop. (the wmv files WILL display when just using media player 11).

If I right click on the desktop and choose properties, then click on the settings tab and click Advanced - then click on the Troubleshooting tab and drag the slider for Hardware acceleration toward none, I can get the files to display in both places.

Is this my only option? Am I correct in assuming this is a limitation of powerpoint and the graphics card or is there another solution?

We need to distribute this file to several remote users to use with a projector and I assume each laptop/graphics card will be different. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

UPDATE -- so I found that if I reinsert the wmv files using the wmv file option in the Control Toolbox - the files WILL play on both the laptop and the projector...however I can't seem to find a way to turn off the display of the media player toolbar.

Nevermind - I figured it all out. since you can't embed wvm files into powerpoint, this wouldn't have been a good solution anyway, I ended up changing the format of the wmv files to flash and I could embed those into powerpoint. And they displayed in both places so I'm all set. thank you.Start Free Trial
