Multi-Page Drawing

I'm new to Visio and am having trouble completing what I think is a simple task.  I am working on a  flowchart and I'm wondering if I can have a connector from an object on Page 1 link to an object on Page 2.  I've been able to use the "Off-Page Reference" to jump between Page 1 and Page 2, but would like to know if you can graphically show the linkage between two objects on separate pages.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "graphically show the linkage between two objects on separate pages".

You can create a hyperlink from any Visio object to any other Visio object, if that's what you're asking. The procedure is slightly obscure but I would be happy to explain it if you're interested.

But that doesn't show the link "graphically" -- other than showing a hyperlink symbol on the cursor (and tooltip text) when you mouse over an object that contains a hyperlink.

So, if you'll describe a bit more about what you'd like to achieve, I'm sure there's a solution.

Scott,

Thanks for responding.  After thinking about it further, I didn't provide the correct explanation for my question.  While I've been forced to use multiple pages for this task and have added Hyperlink objects for the navigation.  I think what I should've been asking is there a way to have a Line Connector on Page 1 with its beginning of the connector linked to Object 1 on Page 1 and the Arrow Pointer ending on Object 2 on Page 2?
There isn't a way that I'm aware of to have a line that is partially on one page and partially on another -- if the pages are, indeed, two separate pages.

However, in Visio there is almost always a way...in fact, usually more than one, to achieve any particular goal. A couple of possibilities:

1) If you do have separate pages, you could have an arrow on page 1 that ends at the edge of the page and is hyperlinked to a corresponding arrow that begins at the very edge of page 2. The appearance to the user is an arrow that leads off the page and a click will take them to the continuation. You can also set the "zoom" level in the hyperlink dialog -- this controls what part of the target page is displayed and at what zoom level when someone clicks the hyperlink. For example, setting the zoom to 150% means that the target shape will be centered on the screen and the view will be zoomed in to 150%. You can experiment to see whether you can get an effect you like. Overall, I'm not sure this approach is markedly different from what you already have with the off-page connector, but it might be worth a try.

2) Another possibility: you can create "pages" that are any size you want in Visio. So, for example, you might create a "page" that is four times the size of a sheet of paper so your drawing can literally continue from sheet to another when viewed in Visio. And yet you can have the printer page size be the same as a sheet of paper and Visio will print 1/4 of your electronic page on each sheet of paper. This could work nicely if viewing in Visio is the primary means for looking at your diagram; if printed output is important, you'll have to experiment with what each sheet looks like to see whether the continuation from sheet-to-sheet works on paper. (note: as you  probably guessed, I used a 4X sized electronic page as an example; you can create an electronic page that is any size you'd like.)

Let me know if you want more information or a sample of either approach.

Scott,

Thanks, this will be a big help since you understand what I'm trying to do.  I have to leave the office, but will check back later on.

Scott,

When you get a chance would you give me the additional information you have on Visio layout possibilities?  Thanks.
