Download the free file converter WP6RTF.EXE from this page:
http://www.computerhope.co
a microsoft converter ford words 97 2000 http://office.microsoft.co
Make sure the Works converter is installed:
Go to Add Remove Program (XP) or Programs and Features (Vista)
Highlight Office and choose "Change"
This will start MS Office Setup
Choose "Add or Remove Features" Click next
Check "Choose Advanced Customization of Applications" Click next
Expand the menus:
Microsoft Office/Office Shared Features/Converters and Filters/Text Converters/Works for Windows 7.0
Click it and choose "Run from My Computer" to install
Thanks Eric1508. I did google the problem and it was suggested that I instal a convertor. I did do that but I still could not open the file. The key here was to save it as a document to my pc and only then I was able to select Word to open the file. I wonder if this would have worked without the convertor.

Often times word can open works files. I would just save the attached file to your desktop and then right click it and select 'Open with' and then select Word to open the document and click OK. Sometimes the Work icon is right there and sometimes you have to browse for it so just select it accordingly. Hopefully this will let you read your file. Eric.
