Works is different than Office. Go straight to Office 2007, it is more intuitive to learn, than 2003 is.

Does Works give her the baseline required to install the new product as an upgrade? We are wanting to buy online and don't have a list of the products for which Office 2003 is termed an "Upgrade".
Thanks,

You need to verify that your version of Microsoft Works is listed in the 'qualifying products' for the Office 2003 Upgrade. Unfortunately, I can't find that info to hand (all changed to 2007 now) but the list of qualifying products for the Office 2007 Upgrade is below, and these should all work for 2003 Upgrade. (Possibly substitute Office XP for Office 2000 in the last line).
* Microsoft Works 6.010;
* Microsoft Works suite 20002006 or later;
* any 20002007 Microsoft Office program or suite;
* any Microsoft Office XP suite except Office XP Student and Teacher.
If you do upgrade, remember to keep the Microsoft Works licence handy with the Office Upgrade licence as they are both required to authenticate the licence.
Ouch, apologies to dstewartjr for not reading your post properly (and apologies to PeterFrb et al).
In my defence, appropriate Microsoft Works products do qualify for upgrade to both Office 2000 and Office 2007 (see http://support.microsoft.c
