Converting Works version 4 docs to word 2007

While using MS word 2007 to open MS Works files made prior to version 6.0 the open dialog is unable to convert the file format. We can see the convert option on word 2007 for works version 6-9, but do not have an option for the older Works formats. What converters are available to upgrade the older file formats?

As far as I can tell, Office 2000 is the "Newest" version of Word that can read Works 4.0 files.
Word XP (2002) might as well, but I never installed it.

You can still get legit copies of Office 2000 online or on Ebay.

I have seen File convertes on the MS Site, but none that specifically convert Works 4.0 files

How are you doing?

Navigate to the file and try opening it in Notepad (right click and Open With...) if you have .wps file extensions. Then you can copy the text in the document to Word 2007. This is not going to keep the formatting, but should allow you to extract the text.

Now, if you need more than that (ie., the formatting is important) see this link:
http://libwps.sourceforge.net/
You would need OpenOffice (www.openoffice.org) and could try that as I am not sure exactly what files it will open and deal with.
