What are some good software tools to have?

I been using superantispyware,  adaware 2007, and spybotsearch and destory.

I found that no one programe truly "gets them all".  Is there a better product out there?

I have been using ARAX Disk DR. for data recover on lost partitions and over all messed up HDD's.

Is there a good util that will run from windows xp pro and look at a slave drive and tell me if the hdd has bas sectors or is about to die etc?

For Registry issues, I use Registry Mechanic  (best program I ever bought). Is there something better?

Im just looking for more tools for me tool box   (thumb drive) for when stuff happens.

Sorry... have to do it.... How about finding a good dictionary or grammar checker first?

OK. That being said... Looking here for an answer to a problem is one thing, but asking for opinions is another. In a forum with 82000 participants, asking for opinions is going to get you A LOT of different answers.

hmm... sombody in EE once told me that they installed SpySweeper and it found all kinds of issues on a fresh install system, and argued that it was bad news...

I have stayed away from that one since.
Suit yourself. I use it regularly without problems. Depends on whether one wishes to use one program or several and the accompanying extra time. Also realize there are so many similar sounding programs, it's easy to get them confused. That's why I specify Webroot SpySweeper.

I routinely deal with heavily infected PCs --> 50 or more different malware programs including SmitFraud and root kits.
see here as well: http://content.zdnet.com/2346-12691_22-95490-1.html

(and as a side note, i have used webroot spysweeper alot.  it is by no means the *one* tool.  it doesn't catch everything if you're using it as a removal tool.  i have seen many cases where spysweeper doesn't catch something that another program, like xcleaner, does.  spysweeper does, however, do a good job at protection (keeping bad things out)... BUT, you have to live with constant pop-ups asking you if such and such should be allowed.  i've actually had customers bring their computer back to me and request that it be removed because it was too annoying.  in my opinion, windows defender is a better option at protection.)
Thanks all!

Good stuff found some good things I didnt' know about. I upped the amount of points and split it to all you that attempted to help with this.  In a forum with with 82000 participants  it was nice that at least 3 were willing to share some stuff.

Thanks
You're welcome.

Realize that most of those 82,000 participants are primarily looking for answers. There are much fewer active responders (experts) spread over many TAs.
