The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Create an array of names

Asked by dbfromnewjersey in Microsoft Applications, Microsoft Access Database, Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Software

Hi.  If someone has a solution to my problem in either Access or Excel, it would be much appreciated.

Currently, I have a file containing three columns.  The first column is  department number. The second column is an employee's first name and the third column is an employee's last name.  It looks like this:

DeptNo        FirstName       LastName
1A               John                Smith
1A               Mary                Johnson
2D               Tom                  Brady
2D               Barry                White
2D               Jan                   Brady
2D               Luke                 SkyWalker
7F                Rupert               Pupkin

There can be up to 4 first and last names associated with a particular department number.
What I'm looking to do is create a file that has only 1 record for each department number with the associated first and last names being placed in an "array" (if that's the proper way to describe it) into columns to the right of the department number. The expected results for the above file would be:

DeptNo   FirstName1 LastName1 FirstName2  LastName2 FirstName3 LastName3 FirstName4  LastName4
1A          John            Smith          Mary            Johnson
2D          Tom             Brady         Barry           White          Jan              Brady         Luke             Skywalker
7F          Rupert         Pupkin

I want to wind up with only 1 record per department number.Start Free Trial
