The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Outlook 2007 and Gmail IMAP - selecting send account

Hi,

I have 4 POP3 accounts for different businesses which I want to consolidate into an IMAP account so I can access from anywhere with multiple PC's, without have to sync them across PC's etc..  I want to use Outlook 2007, not a web interface.  So, I have set up a Gmail IMAP account, and can now collect from my various accounts into the Gmail account and sort into relevant folders based on the address to which the e-mails were sent using Oultook 2007.  So, I have nice IMAP access all sorted and ready to go.

So far so good.

I have one problem I can't manage to solve with Outlook 2007.  When I select 'Reply' to one of the e-mail messages in the consolidated IMAP listing, the 'From' address (and hence 'Reply to' address for the recipient) on the outgoing e-mail is the Gmail address, not the address to which the e-mail was originally sent.

I know I can manually select the outgoing account, but I know from experience that I forget frequently, and then I have the problem of sending clients the wrong address.

I don't need to send it out via Gmail, as I can manually select to send it using the POP3/SMTP account, and then the 'From' address is correct.

It strikes me that the simplest solution would be to automatically select the outgoing account to use for sending based on the incoming address.  Unfortunately, I can't work out how achieve that.  I'm sure a basic script could do it, but I haven't a clue about programming.  But maybe there is a setting in Outlook 2007 I could use?

I'd really appreciate a solution.  I could set up 4 Gmail accounts, but that is going to be a pain and to some extent will defeat what I am trying to achieve - a simple consolidated IMAP listing.

Thanks for your help.

Dave
