With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. Need some guidance please; db has a table that is linked to four other tables, one to many.

Have a data input form sourced from all five tables, ie main form, with the four subforms in a tab control. Tables 2, 3, 4 and 5 each have a number of fields. One field, in each of table 2, 3 4 and 5, contains some values that are compulsory. For example table 2 has a field called RxType. It gets its values from a lookup table; the lookup table has the lookup values, plus a boolean field called compulsory. If there are any values in the lookup table where compulsory = true, then if a record is created for table 2 it must include all the compulsory values.

So, with table 2 as the example, am trying to pre-populate the RxType field in the subform with the compulsory values when the form opens for data input; it will reduce data entry by a few keystrokes and the compulsory records will be captured.

Presume I must do this in VBA and am just looking for some guidelines on how to approach this. What form event, presume will need a DLookup to get the ID of the compulsory records, how do I reference the subforms on the tab control, how to update the form with all compulsory values (does it require an array or a loop), presume must test for nulls when form opens before updating, do I update the records on the main form event, or on the subform events etc.

Not looking for code, just a broad how-to with the major steps if that's possible
