The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Create a web site from Stratch in SharePoint Designer

Asked by systems_mitsui in Microsoft Applications, MS SharePoint

Hi everyone,

I aM new to SharePoint designer and reading the SharePoint designer bible. (Good place as any to start) but am a bit confused/stuck at chapter two, creating a web application In IIS 6.0 and configuring it so you can use it as a SharePoint site and open it Share Point designer and add webparts etc. Bascially design it from the ground up without all the Master pages, Core CSS files you get when opening a site already created in WSS in SP Designer.

OK this is what I want to do/know if you can do it:

I want to create  SharePoint site from stratch. IE I have WSS 3.0 on windows 2008 server with IIS 7.0. I want to create a web applicationnin IIS 7.0 [not via WSS central admin site] then configure it so I can open it in SharePoint designer and add my own table layout, CSS files and SharePoint web parts/zones from the server (SP designer is installed on the WSS server)

Is this possible. They say in the book you can do it with IS 6.0 with FrontPage Server extension by extending the site?

How do you guys do this/create SharePoint sites from the ground up.
Also once you have created  your site with bespoke graphics can you add the WSS site settiings web part areas in so if you open in your browser as an admin you can edit it and add webparts to the web part areas like a normal wss site created in Central admin.

I am a bit confsused about created bespoke SharePoint sites with SP Designer.
Help needed, thanks

Do I need to install the front page extensions in IIS 7.0 to do this?
