How to backup Hyper V virtual machines?

Hello,
I just bought a NAS device that we are going to use as a target for backups of Virtual Machines.
We have 2 physical hosts with a vm on each one. One vm is a exchange 2007 server and the other VM is a file server.

Now for the bad news.  We have no money in budget for backup software.  So whatever we use has to be free.  Anything that works good with vhd files?

Thanks for the links.  Does anyone know of any side effects of backing up an exchange server via WSB using VSS?

I would go with Symantec Backup Exec to backup Hyper-V virtual machines. Using Symantec will lessen the chance of user error and backups running correctly. You also get more managebility with Symantec Backupexec.

Yeah I would go with Symantec too if I had $2,000 lying around.  But the budget is nothing.  So free is all I got :(

I Hope you have SP2 on Exchange, because till SP2 WSB is not an exchange aware backup solution (see here more: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124515.aspx)

You have to think about it this $2000 with data security or free with a possible lack of data integrity.
