Cloning a hyper-v machine with AVHD files

Dear EE experts,

I have a Hyper-V virtual machine running Windows XP. When I installed this XP machine, I created a snapshot and several snapshots too after installation of some programs. My problem is that when I copy all of the VHD files (the vhd itself and the avhd files), the new VM which I create based on that VHD-s only reflects the FIRST state of that VM. How can I clone a machine which already has avhd files (snapshots)? Please NOT POST links, please post the exact, accurate steps since they are not long.

Go into hyperv manager. Delete the snaps you created using the snapshot manager. After u delete all of the snaps shutdown the vm and the status will change to merging, this will merge all of your snaps to one vhd, then u can copy it

Any other way? As I know, in order to change the status to merge, I have to take my VM offline :S

If you want to avoid the downtime of merging you an export the current machine, import it with a new id which will still have the snapshots and allow for that to merge to a single file. start the new machine and delete the old. Any further help let me know
