Do you have antivirus software active? It may be scanning your VHD and this can take many hours for such large files.
Try to exclude VHD files or disable AV protection for copy time.

Browse All TopicsI am trying to move a VHD file that is the e drive on a VM to another drive on the HyperV server. I ahve done everything I can think of to get it to copy. Everytime i try to copy the vhd file it start to copy fine, but then after about 45 seconds, it starts increasing in the amount of time and goes to XXXXXXX and never finishes. I have tried rebooted with this VM turned off and everything. How do I get the HyperV server to release this file?

Use RoboCopy to copy the file instead of Windows Explorer. This way even if it doesn't work, it will give you an error message which you can troubleshoot then. RoboCopy is a part of your Windows installation.
