Cannot convert Vmware guest in Virtual Machine Manager

Hi,

I have recently installed virtual machine manager 2008 and I am trying to test conversion of a vmware machine to hyper v.
It starts but then fails with the message
Error 2912
An internal error has occurred trying to contact an agent on the "servername"
(Unknown error (0x80072f7d))

The recommended action is to restart the WS-Management service which I have done but it still has not helped.
I am running VMM 2008 in a virtual machine on the host machine that I am trying to place the vmware conversion on. Do you think this could make a difference?

If I could get this to work it would save a lot of time for me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Not a port issue as the host machine does not even have IIS running so 443 is out and on the both servers I cannot see them using 443 from netstat.

It's not the host, it IS the guest. Try to uninstall and reinstall the agent on the host if that does not work

Sorry I gave up on worrying about this. I will stick with what I know and come back to it later. I will assign some points as you took the time to respond with some suggestions that may help others in the future.

The answers given could provide help for others but did not help me. I also do not have the ability to test this as we have existing methods and the suggestion given would require too much down time for me to test.

in my case this was an issue with a physical server having more than on ip address.

using the first ip address to connect instead of the dns name solved it for me
