The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Cannot get internet access on virtual machine

Asked by darovitz in Microsoft Virtual Server

Tags: , ,

I setup my first Microsoft Virtual Server (2007 R2).  First is emphasized.  The host server is running Server 2003 SP2.  The virtual machine is also running Server 2003.  The host server internal ip is 10.35.50.66  255.255.0.0  no default gateway and dns of 10.35.50.1 and 10.35.50.2.  The host server has a second network adapater with a public ip.  On the host server I CAN get to the internet.

The virtual machine do not have a static ip address.  When I run ipconfig I get an ip address of 10.237.0.16 mask 255.255.0.0 no default gateway and a DHCP server of 10.237.0.1.

My first thought is to give the virtual machine a static ip on the same subnet as my hosting server.

I haven't done anything yet because I want to make sure I am doing this properly.

I have also disabled antivirus on the host server... should I enable it or will this cause an issue with virtual machines.

PROBLEM... I simply need to access the internet from the virtual machine.

Thanks experts... please remember my experience is a 0 in this area but I don't have time to read a bunch of how to's right now.
