The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Virtual Server 2005 R2 - Cloning a DC with Script Logic on it

Asked by inverted_2000 in Microsoft Virtual Server, Windows 2000 Server, Active Directory

Hey everyone,

I've got a old domain that has 2 DCs with W2k that are very very old.  Upgrading the domain to W2k3 isn't an option at this time because of lack of resources and support persons at the office.  No one at that company currenlty has time to upgrade/replace/etc the W2k DCs and the applciations that use the older domain.  One of the DCs uses Script Logic to map drives for the users too...this has a lot of entries in it but is long been unsupported because it is out dated and the media is no longer available to do a re-install of the app.  DHCP is also a role of one of the DCs

If I were to clone the servers with Virtual Server and SCVMM 2007...will I be able to shut off the phyiscal servers and have the virtual servers take over on the network?

I ask this, because of the names that the servers use is important to the legacy apps that use this old domain.
I want to avoid the issue that arrises if there are 2 DCs with the same name.

Could this cut over be possible?  And will it be a "true" clone so that Script Logic will continue to run?

I have cloned before...but not a DC that had DHCP and Script Logic on it.

Thanks a lot,
