The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Virtual Hard Drive is showing a False Space Allocation

Asked by Rnetmaster in Microsoft Virtual Server

Tags: , ,

I am running Server 2003 Exchange virtually with MS Virtual Server 2005. If I go into the C:\drive of the Host and drill down to the Virtual Guest Server Folder where all the Guest Servers live, and open it up I have two Virtual Hard Drives C & D. When I property them for size I get approximately 53GB between the two drives. If I go to the actual Virtual Mail server and Property the two Virtual drives on this server I get approximately 30GB. If I open up the eMail Archive Storage Group and drill down to eMail Archive Mailbox Store / Mailboxes most of them are there, the rest seem to be in the General Storage Group/General Storage Mailbox Store/Mailboxes. I got took the total of all the mailboxes and all the public folders and it amounted to approximately 8GB.
The question I'm getting drilled on by the Boss is why does the Virtual Host show the VMGuest\MailServer C&D drive reading 53GB in use, while the actual Virtual Mail Server is reading approximately 30GB in use, while the above storage groups report approximately 8GB of space is being used? What is it that I'm missing here? I'm thinking that the Virtual HD's are expanded and they need to be compacted, but is there something else that is on exchange that is taking up space that I'm missing? I need to give the boss an answer and I'm far from an Exchange Guru!
