The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

WSUS on Virtual Server 2005

Asked by karinerivet in Microsoft Virtual Server, Windows 2003 Server, MS Forefront-ISA

We had been running WSUS on a physical server and all of our workstations were able to successfully connect to and download updates from the server.  While that installation was running on the physical server, I did a new installation of WSUS in a virtual server running on Virtual Server 2005.  After completing the installation I updated our WSUS GPO to direct our workstations to the new server.  After a few days, once I saw that workstations were starting to report to the new server I went ahead and uninstalled WSUS from the old physical server.  Now I have several workstations that are either listed as Not yet reported or are listed as normal, but havent connected in over a month.  On several of the workstations that are listed as Not yet reported I tried running wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow and resolved a few of them, but others are still left in the same state.  I also tried from several of the workstations going to the Windows Update site to download and install the latest Windows Update client and updates, but theyre still left in the same state.  All of our servers and many of our workstations are successfully communicating with the WSUS server, but many of our workstations are showing up as Not yet reported or out of date and I dont know why.  Are there any known issues with running WSUS on Virtual Server 2005?  Do you have any idea what might be causing this and how we might fix it?Start Free Trial
