The database could not be exclusively locked to perform the operation.
ALTER DATABASE failed. The default collation of database 'Apex' cannot be set to SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS.

What application are you using? You're in the dBase zone, but this doesn't particularly look like the messages you'd get from dBase (though I'm not familiar with all the most recent versions). What is your code doing when you get the message?

The obvious possibility is that someone else is using the database (reading or writing) when you're trying to make a change to it. Have you verified that that's not possible?

I am not sure of the data base I have done an upgrade for John deere Ag managment from 2.0 to 2.1, 2.0 was working fine and then this upgrade came and now it wont work and I have tryed to uninstall the upgrade, but when I go to go in to the original program it wont let me with out doing the upgrade. This error only comes up when it is time to upgrade the data

Based on the error message you're seeing, it looks to me like the application is using SQL Server to handle the database. But since this is a packaged application, there's no easy way to determine what the problem is, aside from the obvious possibility that someone else is trying to run the software when you're doing the upgrade. Aside from that, I really think you're going to have to talk to John Deere's support team, since they're the developers of the application. I'm sorry I can't help more, but it's hard to troubleshoot in a situation like this where it's a specialized application and you don't have access to the source code.
