The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

What happened:
I use Visual studio 2005 Express to develop a c# website. everything works fine on the server and even the developer server works on local machine. but when I setup a local web server using IIS 5.1 and .NET 2.0, it shows up this message in the browser.

Then I did some search on google and reset the application start point to a sub directory, and I got another error message in my browser:

try running this

C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727>aspnet_regiis -i

if that doesn't fix your issue, uninstall the framework, reboot. Then reinstall the framework and rerun the aspnet_regiis

Hi qzmask,

Have you installed the .net framework 2.0 after the IIS setup of it is installed before the IIS setup. If it is installed before  the IIS setup then you have to follow what RDdice said. Go to the command promt and then go to the directory "C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727" then type aspnet_regiis with -i option. This will re register the ASP.net extensions with IIS.

Now if you have installed the IIS before the installation of .net framework then it may be a problem because of the operating system XP & IIS 5.0 , Try to upgrade your IIS to 7.0 and then try.

Let me know if it works.

I tried to do the C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727>aspnet_regiis -i today on the server.
it's something different this time, but still not working. here's the page I got:
"The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. "

And in the Visual studio 2005 EE ASP.net development server it still works fine, but in order to put it online I have to use IIS anyways.

To anuragal:
how do I upgrade to IIS7.0 on Windows XP? I heard that we'll only be able to use IIS5.1 on windows XP.

To vbturbo:
thanks there is lot's replies in that post. I'll try them one by one later.

What OS are you running?

Is it a 404, 403, or 500 error your getting?

You'll need to make sure you have propermissions set on your site folder.

Make sure you give full control to ASPNET, Network, and Network Service users. And read access to your IIS user.

Good to help. I always seem to be fighting permissions error.

A good rule of thumb when when things aren't working and you have no idea why:

aspnet_Regiis -i

and setting permissions on your root folder.

Normally clears up 90% of those hit your head on the desk problems.
