The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How do I add a value from a database to the query string in my URL?

Asked by taduh in .Net Editors & IDEs, Microsoft Visual Basic.Net

Please be kind and very, very explicit. I'm a total ASP.NET novice.

I've built a page with a gridview connected to a SQL database. The first column contains links to detail pages for each record. Using the DataNavigateUrlFields and DataNavigateUrlFormatString, the system passes the corresponding database key field to the Details page. The Details page is then populated with additional informationfrom the selected database record. This all works perfectly.

From the Details page, I have an hyperlink to an email form that needs to be customized based on the selected record. I know I need to pass that same database key I passed from the gridview page to the Details page to this new form via a query string. However, I don't know how to set the query string to a value retrieved from my database.

This is what I currently have:

<asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink1" runat="server" NavigateUrl='ContactForm.aspx?MortgageOriginatorID='<%#Eval("MortgageOriginatorID")%>'>Contact Me</asp:HyperLink>

It doesn't work. But it does work when I replace <%#Eval("MortgageOriginator")%> with an actual MortgageOriginatorID value. For example:

<asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink1" runat="server" NavigateUrl='ContactForm.aspx?MortgageOriginatorID='2'>Contact Me</asp:HyperLink>

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciate. Also, I do understand that by not obfuscating my query string, I'm opening my site up to vulnerabilities. Security is my next step. For now, I'd just like to get my links to work!
