I worked for a company for a number of years and developed a pretty extensive Access (sql backend) application that managed about $40 million in information. After I left, the owner of the company commented that he would be interested in investing in me turning the application into a full application (VB) that could be marketed. The application I built in Access handled the same tasks that $25,000 (and up) applications did, so the value is there. In fact, the company was able to delay purchasing a $200,000 system for two years based on what I had built. I'm now in a position to begin work on the project and would like to know how to submit the proposal to him. My initial idea is to get enough investment to work completely on this project over the next 6-12 months, so I would basically need an investment that equaled a salary commitment at least. So...
how do I word this proposal?
How do I offer ownership of the finished project?
How do I discuss expected and realistic sales goals?
What is an average turn around time frame for application development?
What other things do I need to consider?
Do I set out a plan for development and then do a "talk later" about sales people...or do I need to have at least some idea about delivering actual financial income?
Basically, how do I sell him on letting this be my job for the next year? I don't break the bank right now, but I would need at least my current salary (a little over $50k) while developing...how do I word this so it doesn't look like he's paying me to sit at home? What should I include and what should I consider?
Thanks!
