The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Creating listBox columns
Tags: Visual Studio .Net 2005 -  C++
Greetings:

I know it's possible to cause listBox21 below to show columns but I could use some help doing it.

My goal is to fill listBox21 with five columns that contain data from five objects in a queue.  The string parameter 'strValue' will hold the string for one column.  I'm hoping to be able to delete a particular column whenever the corresponding object in the queue is removed.

This would probably look nicer if it were done by rows but columns will work as long as I can  reference the column in order to clear it out of listBox21.

So again, what code is necessary in the function below to enable me to create five columns or rows and delete the column/rows when needed?

Thanks

void Form1::ListBox21Msg(string strValue)
{

      Form1::listBox21->BeginUpdate();
      String *ListBox21Str  = __gc new String(strValue.c_str());
      Form1::listBox21->Items->Add(ListBox21Str);
      Form1::listBox21->EndUpdate();
      return;
}

Hi John500,

in such cases I use CListCtrl instead of ListBox.
Did you think about that?

I'm not familiar with it but surely game.  Can you show me how the current function would differ?

Thanks

Hmmm,
now I have a problem ... ;-)
Since I am writing C++ applications only, I am not quite good with VB.
I think, you may try to build a test application with a dialog and an ListCtrl
in this dialog. As far as I know you need only to drag the control in your form.
Then you should be able to see all possible properties and events in your IDE.

Sorry, hope that helps

Sorry, I mean .NET

Are you familar with the control - listView ?

I'm thinking this was the term I should have used in the question.  I was using this about four years ago but remember having problems.  I just finally found the code but still need help with it.

The code look like this:

Form1.cpp

void Form1::ListView1Msg(string strValue)
{
      String StrMsg;

      StrMsg = __gc new String(strValue.c_str());

      Form1::listView1->BeginUpdate();
      ListViewItem* item1 =  new ListViewItem(StrMsg);
      Form1::listView1->Items->Add(item1)
      return;

}

Form1.h

Form1(void) {
...
public: static System::Windows::FormsListView * listView1;
public: static void ListViewMsg(string);
...
private:  System::Void Form1_Load(System::Object * sender, System::EventArgs * e)
{
     Form1::listView1->View = View::Details;
     Form1::listVifew1->Columns->Add("", Form1::listView1->Width, HorizontalAlignment::Left);
...
...
}

I forgot about the .Net comment you added.  I guess this means you are not familar, yes/no?

03.13.2008 at 02:16PM PDT, ID: 21120974
I recompiled this project and ran it but the poperties for this control within the designer don't indicate any kind of easy column creation.  I get the impression it's all done by code.

Tomorrow I look at my source and send you a c++ sample, which you can adapt to .NET.
Unfortunately I can't access the source from home.

Hi John500,

the difference between C++ and C# is to big. So I think it is better to look at a c# example.
Hav a look at this:

Hope that helps.

Andy,

Thanks for the input.

The array was the answer:

for(i = 0;, i < 7; i++)
String ListViewArray[i] = __gc new String(DataArray[i]);

ListViewItem *ListViewData = new ListViewItem(ListViewArray);

Andy,

Here's another question concerning a list box if you get interested:
