The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Printer Driver Interop

Asked by DuNuNuBatman in Microsoft Visual C++.Net, C++ Programming Language

Tags: ,

I have been given the task of writing an interface to interop with 3 specific photo printers. They are having trouble getting information from them when print jobs fail for various reasons. Unfortunatelly, the print spooler is useless because the drivers for these printers bypass the spooler. When print jobs are sent to the printer, the spooler shows a status of waiting until the job has completed. Any errors for the printer are exposed through the driver, however none of the companies that created the printers have any type of developer support, so I am lost on where/how to begin.
The 3 printers I need to start with are:
Sony UP-DR150
Mitsubishi CP9550DW
Copal Q8 (DPB-4000)

I'm a beginner C++ developer but I have a lot of time to devote to this project. The problem I know I will have is where to start getting information from the printers. My requirements are fairly simple. All I need to find out is if the print job failed. Finding out why it failed is the next phase, but that isn't a priority and I can worry about that later.
I will be writing this app using MC++ so I can interface with a .net application that I have already written.

Any guidance on where you think I should begin would be greatly appreciated.Start Free Trial
