Reading a text file into an array or arraylist

I have a text file with one item per line. I need to be able to read that text file, create an array or arraylist, then compare what's entered into a textbox with the list of items in the array at the click of a button. What I have so far, is not working, and I can't seem to find anything out there that helps me get it right.
