Javascript call is doing postback on updatePanel instead of only refreshing updatePanel

I have a masterpage and a content page.  I have a script manager in the masterpage and an updatePanel in the content page.  I want to update the updatepanel via Javascript.  With a masterpage, it is doing a full page postback.  See code below.  When I don't use a masterpage, it works just fine (only updating the updatepanel).   I am using MS Ajax 1.0Start Free Trial
