The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Import flat file into SQL Server using SSIS
Tags: file, ssis, flat, import, sql
Hi All,

I have a flat file that contains 2 types of records - Awards and Remptions.  The Awards will be noted with an A and the Redemptions with a R.  These records are different - The awards records are in a different order and contain different info then the Remptions.  I need to use SSIS to import the data into 2 different SQL Tables.

Please Help.

Thank you!

BCP them into a holding table, and then insert into 2 tables with SQL from there.

07.18.2007 at 01:12PM PDT, ID: 19516944
How is bcp done in SSIS?

I woudn't do it in SISS

I'd do

exec master..xp_cmdshell "bcp blah blah"

in a stored proc, and then in the rest of the proc, manipulate the data.

Or you could add a linked server to the tect file, and select directly from it.

You can do it in SSIS...
Use OLEDB Datasource
SORT Transform For Each Source
INNER JOIN Transform
Condition Split Transform
OLEDB Destination

helped? Regards

Hi Pedro,

That helped a little but here is more info that I am confused on how to do this:

The load process should produce an exception report with details of any invoice records that have problems:

i) Invalid or missing values (e.g. bad dates. non-numeric data in numeric fields)

ii) Unrecogonized employer group or participant ID

iii) Duplicate InvoiceID (i.e. we already have an invoice with the same ID).

I'm really fuzzy on how to do all this.

Before the innerjoin, you can add a condition split to filter the good and bad data.
The good data goes directly to the INNER JOIN, the bad data you could directly for example to a DERIVED Column to correct data... next you direct to the INNER JOIN...

Helped?

I'm still lost.  My text file has invoice header info and invoice detail info.   The headers and details have different lengths of data which is why I'm having issues bringing into the SQL envirment.   Any ideas on how to do this??

08.03.2007 at 03:20AM PDT, ID: 19623674
Is not possoble to link the flatfile source to a multicast?
And use a condition split to get the headers and another conditoon Split to get the details...

Or if you cannot use multicast after the flat file, use the same flat file source twice...
what you think?
Regards!

Hi Pedro,

What is a multicast??   I'm still lost.....

08.03.2007 at 07:27AM PDT, ID: 19625239
a multicast transform allows you two have 2 or more flows...
for example the input in a multicast is 10 rows... these 10 rows could be sent for more than one destination...

helped?
