The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

steps to Pass excel file name to connectionstring dynamically
Tags: Microsoft, SQL Server BI development studio, 2005, Excel connection manager, SSIS, SQL Server BI development studio, Passing a dynamic excel file name to connectionstring
Hi,
I have a "foreach loop" in the control flow and have an "excel source" in data flow.  I like to know how can I pass different excel file name to the connection string?

Here are the steps that I have done but it's not working:
1, Excel Source -> Right Click -> Edit -> Excel source editor:
    - for OLE DB Connection manager : Excel Connectin Manager
    - for Data Access mode : Table name or view name variable
    - for variable : User::varExcelConnPath
    (ie, which is "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + @[User::varFileName] + ";Extended    Properties=\"Excel 8.0;HDR=YES\";")  and (varFileName is c:\temp\customer_tbl1.xls)

I got the following error message:
Error at Data Flow Task [Excel Source [1]]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.
Error at Data Flow Task [Excel Source [1]]: Opening a rowset for ""Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + @[User::varFileName] + ";Extended Properties=\"Excel 8.0;HDR=YES\";"" failed. Check that the object exists in the database.

2, If in the variable name and I select User:varFileName (ie, c:\temp\customer_tbl1.xls), then I got the following error message.

Error at Data Flow Task [Excel Source [1]]: A destination table name has not been provided.

Do you know what is causing the problem here?

Regards,

Check my example:
"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + @[User::HistoricFolder] + "Hist_Coupon.xls;Extended Properties=\"EXCEL 8.0;HDR=YES\";"

there's no difference, you are passing a dynamic folder name with a static excel file, and I am passing a whole dynamic path (directory, folder and file name.xls as a string)
