The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Copying data from one (identical) MSSQL database/table to another - Strategies

Asked by synapse88 in MS SQL DTS, MS SQL Server, SQL Server 2005

So I have two identical SQL 2005 databases, one on server #1 which is the back-end for my Production site, and one on server #2 which is the back-end Training site.  I have had a number of new users sign up for the Production site on server1, and I want to copy the new user records over to the database on server2 so they can access the Training site.

So I have the "users" table on server1 and the "users" table on server2 and I want to move the new records from server1 to server2.

I tried to do this through the DTS Import/Export Wizard, and I thought the best way was to select the "Write a Query to Specify the Data to Copy" option in the DTS Wizard, but I don't know the exact code to write which will let me reference both databases since they are named exactly the same.  Say the database is named "sales" and the table is "users." How would I write code which would allow me to just copy over the user records (rows) which are on server1 but NOT in the "users" table in the "sales" database server2?

Any other options (besides the DTS Wizard or manual copy/paste) to move over just the updated data from one table to another are welcome. I don't want to setup Log Shipping or Transaction Replication though...I just want to be able to run this update process when I chose to.  Thanks for ANY info!!
