Can you show how you are linking to it ? Any particular reason for using a linked server ?

is MSDASQL available ?

have you tried openrowset (bulk .... or bcp, or bulk insert ? Is it a recognized format file in terms of layout and columns - could you use a format file ?

ok then, I will use bulk insert.

BULK
INSERT dbo.temp
        FROM 'www.test.com\test.txt'
            WITH
    (
                FIELDTERMINATOR = '|',
                ROWTERMINATOR = '\n'
    )
GO

This works if my path is in my local computer. is it posible to use bulk insert and link it to the web text file

Path: www.testweb\testfile.txt

Thanks!

the www.testweb.com   will translate to an IP address. using \\www.testweb.com\testfile.txt should work assuming firewalls and other security measure don't block you - and there is every opportunity for that to happen.

if getting dta files from a web site then probably best to download it first - possibly using sftp or just ftp - then do the imports.
