The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Backup,Restore and Service pack's

Asked by Harry8325 in MS SQL Server

I need to perform a backup and recovery  schedule.

What i need to do is :

1) from production machine i need to take a full back up then need to restore it on the Test mcahine which already has SQL SERVER installed.
i then need to install SQL SERVER Service pack 1 on the machine and windows NT service pack 6 also, which has not been done uptill right now.
then i need to test the stability of the machine and its performance, on test.
2)Once this is done i need to perform the same operation on the production machine, but according to the management i need to make sure that i remove the previous
installed sql server service pack and nt service pack so that at any instance of time if there is any problem the users can use the test which is a copy of production.

What i don't know is :

1) how to do this with the commands...backup then restore on different machine.
2) Which service pack is stable and suggested for better performance and will solve lots of issues
not have any problem later on, on the sql server machine and database, where stability and performance are critical issue's.
3) is there a chance to uninstall the service pack once installed and how can it be done.
4) while one sqlserver is installed on the machine can i install different sql server on the same machine and upgrade it with service packs to point out to this new one i have to different drives.
5) what tests do i need to take on the machine to check the stability and performance of the machine once the original backup is restored on the new machine.

Can some one tell me how to do this in brief...what need to be done and how, there steps and what commands and which files need to be taken care.

Thanks for ur great help in advance.
