Question

Select statement

Here is my problem:

I need to write a query that will pull all data from 1 table and data from a 2nd table where the id fields match if exists.

but if the id fields don't match I still want to display data from the 1st table.  

How can I do this?

Try this,

select <whatever> from table1 left join table2 on table1.ID = table2.ID

Sorry, I messed up slightly in my question, how do I use your select stmt with ids that match, and a field in the second table matching a constant value?

Ok I'll try again

select <whatever> from table1 left join table2 on table1.ID = table2.ID and table2.field = constant

if you are limiting what is in the right table in a left join, put the expression in the on bit of the join.
