Creating and returning a recordset with a stored procedure

Hi,

I've read quite a few articles on returning recordsets from stored procedures but I'm still not sure if I can get the result I'm after.

At present I use some ASP code which opens two recordsets, Bookings and DailySettings, and builds an HTML table based on the contents. I'd like to use a stored procedure to do the job and return a recordset containing just HTML strings. That way I can build the HTML table with a simple loop.

Is it possible to create a new recordset with just one field (HTML_String) and return it to my ASP page via ADO? Would the new recordset have to be created as a temporary table?

I've written stored procedures before but they only returned single vales to ASP using the command object.

I'd be very greatful is anyone could provide some sample stored procedure and ASP code to demonstriaght the effect I'm after. Say for example -

Bookings Table:
Time as DateTime, -- time and date of booking
Name as VarChar(40)

DailySettings Table:
Date as DateTime,
Start_Of_Day as DateTime,
End_Of_Day as DateTime,
Booking_Slot_Duration as Int -- # of hours between bookings

pass a date value into the SP, select all the bookings that are on that day. Then use the DailySettings for that day to create an html string for each booking 'slot'.

In ASP it would look a bit like:

currentSlotTime = rsSettings("Start_Of_Day")
While currentSlotTime < rsSettings("End_Of_Day")
if rsBookings("Time") >= currentSlotTime AND rsBookings("Time") < dateAdd("H",rsSettings("Booking_Slot_Duration "),currentSlotTime) then

HTML = "<td bgcolor=blue>Booked</td>"
else
HTML = "<td bgcolor=red>Click to book</td>"
end if
currentSlotTime = dateAdd("H",rsSettings("Booking_Slot_Duration ,currentSlotTime)
wend

I hope you can see what I'm trying to do. Its actually alot more complicated but thats the priciple.

Some good example code is worth 300 pts.
