The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Best Upgrade Solution from Access97 (MSSQL)

Asked by CLL in MS SQL Server

Currently we use Access 97 Front and Back end for our in-house databases.
This year we have decided to not only upgrade our own in-house databases off 97, but also look at developing databases for other companies.

We feel that SQL SERVER will be the best option as the back end, but are looking for advice on the most appropriate front end development application.

below are some of the factors that we need to consider when choosing the right application:

a.  Cost to our prospective clients due to 'client licensing' (our prefernce is to develop using an application that doesn't require the end user to purchase any licenses)

b.  Hetrogenous Support - finding an application that can be used on a variety of Platforms.

c.  Web Access - for developing applications that can be used across the internet.

also,

d.  Availability of external support for our applications if our developers are unable to continue working with them

e.  Ease of learning and developing (this one isn't AS important as the top three). Currently the main area of experience is using VBA in Access 97.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
If i have missed some vital information or consideration, please let me know - i'll try to answer it as best i can.
the points will go to the person with the most comprehensive and convincing answer.

thanks in advance.
