Does anyone have any experience of migrating SQL Server servers from standalone servers
to virtual servers running under VMWARE ESX
The environment i have is a mixture of Windows NT4 and Windows 2000 running SQL Server 7
and involves a mixture of Production and Development Boxes...
Several of the Database are involved in Replication relationships...
The approach the server guys want to take is to migrate boxes without regard to application usages...
(but the relationships between the applications and the databases are many anvaried anyway) therefore
I'm going to have scenarios where the application servers are migrated ahead of the Database Servers,
and vice versa, and also the scenario where a publishing server is migrated before its subscribers and
vice versa...
Does anyone have any "general" comments or pitfalls to try and avoid?
Links to any websites etc containing experiences of running SQL Server under VMWARE would also help
