The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Deleting only one record from duplicates

I have a table in SQL Server that has many duplicate records.

1)Based on the following fields, how do I write a query that shows me all duplicates?: LastName, FirstName, SSN, System, Status.
2)How do I write a query to go through the results of the above query and change the status field value in only one of each set of duplicates (change value from "Closed" to "_DELETED_")?

For instance, lets say the first query gives me these results:

LASTNAME     FIRSTNAME     SSN                SYSTEM     STATUS
smith             john                111111111      Outlook      Closed  
smith             john                111111111      Outlook      Closed
doe               jane                 222222222      Word         Closed
brown           joe                   333333333      Network     Closed
brown           joe                   333333333      Network     Closed

Records 1 and 2 are duplicates, and records 4 and 5 are duplicates, based on these 5 fields.

I need the second query to go through these results and change the Status value in only one of each set of duplicates:

smith             john                111111111      Outlook      _DELETED_
