The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Specifying an SQL server...

Asked by mikhael in MS SQL Server

Hi folks

I need your help, experts.
I have allocated 500 points for this question, not because it's hard, but because I am asking several questions. So, I fully expect to split the points.

I need to design an MS SQL server, for a client. It will be hosting an app. for about 10 current users and probably another 5 or so in the next 3 to 5 yrs.

They will be accessing this app. over Terminal Services.

The app. vendor predicts the database will start at about 1 to 2 Gb and grow to perhaps 3 or 4 Gb over 3-5 yrs.

I am proposing to use 2 Xeon CPU's of 3.2GHz each; 2 channel hardware RAID1 with a pair of 36Gb U320 drives on each channel. (hot swappable drives)
1 array for the OS and programs and 1 for the data.

Using HP as the hardware vendor.

Questions:

What RAID card to use? I was thinking Smart Array 6402/128 Controller (128Mb RAM)

How much RAM? I want to start with say 4Gb RAM with a view to expand if the need arises during the 3-5 yr life of the server.

CPU enough?
