The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How to use a for next loop to generate dynamic SQL in a stored procedure

Asked by richardmmathis in MS SQL Server

I have a fairly long stored procedure in a SQL 2005 server, and I'm trying to generate some dynamic SQL to finish it up.  Unfortunately I'm having trouble finding an example in the documentation to help me finish it up.

I have a startdate and an enddate, say 8/21/2006 and 8/26/2006 and I need to step through each date and generate SQL like the following

select distinct title, hotelrooms.ID,
(select top 1 totalmarkup   from hotelrooms t1 where hotelrooms.id = t1.id order by totalmarkup   asc ) startingprice
 from hotelrooms
inner join (select ID from hotelrooms where date = '8/21/2006' and allowsarrival = 1 and roomstock > 0) dt1 on dt1.id = hotelrooms.id
inner join (select id from hotelrooms where date = '8/22/2006' and roomstock >0) dt2 on dt2.id = hotelrooms.id
inner join (select id from hotelrooms where date = '8/23/2006' and roomstock >0) dt3 on dt3.id = hotelrooms.id
inner join (select id from hotelrooms where date = '8/24/2006' and roomstock >0) dt4 on dt4.id = hotelrooms.id
inner join (select id from hotelrooms where date = '8/25/2006' and roomstock >0) dt5 on dt5.id = hotelrooms.id
inner join (select id from hotelrooms where date = '8/26/2006' and roomstock >0) dt6 on dt6.id = hotelrooms.id
group by title, hotelrooms.ID

as you can see I'm simply repeating dt2 through dt6 with the date incremened by one.  In .net I'd simply do a for next loop incrementing the date by one by using DateAdd.  Can someone help me do this in SQL?

Thank you in advance,
