The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Database Design Questions

I am needing to keep track of "hits" to particular items.  Rather than have separate relationship tables for each item type, I wanted to use a single "Hits" table, which also links to a "HitDetails" table that contains other info related to that hit.  For example, say I am tracking hits to songs, albums, and videos.  So I have three tables, Songs, Albums, and Videos, all of which contain a HitsID field which links to the HitsID field in my table Hits.  I then have a HitDetails table linked by HitsID as well.

So, my questions are:

1) Is this a proper design for such setup?  I ask because essentially my Hits table only needs that one field, so I'm curious as to whether I am approaching this incorrectly.

2) If this is ok, how do you write an insert statement for a table with only a single field that is an identity column?
